Little Man had his EEG. I don't think words can describe how awesome it was! He hated the leads being put on & really got himself worked up but once he was all hooked up he napped like a champ:)
The test started & while the little squiggly lines started their path all I could do was to pray- please God, please don't let him have seizures, please please, please!
I could tell from the last time we had an EEG done this test was different. For starters, his eyes were working together the majority of the time. Last time, the lines that represented his eyes were all.over.the.place. Now? Two separate lines, working quite nicely together. Score one for Little Man!
Next I noticed all the other lines. Sometimes they would be jagged, but mostly, they looked pretty normal. The tech guy (who referred to himself as "grandpa", lol) asked me if Little Man was a lefty or a righty. I had to think about it for a bit because he uses each hand rather equally (equally bad! lol!) So I said the his left side was weaker physically but he seemed to reach for thing first with his left more times than he did with his right. The tech guy then said, "That may explain it." Then he asked if Little man was missing any parts of his brain. Yes, as a matter of fact, he is. He has no corpus callosum. The tech guy says "Bingo!" I knew it. He then pointed out to me that he saw no signs of seizure activity but the test was still reading abnormal. Abnormal because it was not measuring which side of his brain was bigger or more dominant. It wasn't measuring that because one of the things a corpus callosum does is help a brain figure out which side is dominant. Little Man's brain is equal in size on both sides.
So this means that the reason why his EEG is abnormal is because he has no corpus callosum, not because he has seizures. To top off a an already great test, it looked BETTER than the first one we did! Yipee! His brain is healing & little by little, its working better. I'll take news like that any day!

WONDERFUL news!!! Miles uses both hands pretty much equally, too- he also has not Corpus Callosum
Our EEG is always a mess! We don't worry as long as we don't have seizures! Normal is overrated anyway, right?
Great news!
Hip Hip Hooray!
That is incredible news! It's interesting about the right/left handedness and the corpus callosum. Emily's is extremely thin (hypoplastic) and she shows no hand preference. No one ever explained to me why! :)
Awesome news!!! The brain is absolutely amazing, especially in little kids. They overcome and reroute and heal so much!
I feel happy about all this, too!
Sorry I missed reading it earlier in the week. Barbara
Goods news all around! Caleigh's EEG is abnormal as well but as long as there isn't any seizures we jump for joy :)
